Marriage License Process During COVID-19

April 9, 2020 By Elite Events by Tawanda 1 Comment

There’s no denying that our worlds have been turned upside down and most brides are losing hope or worse giving up. Although these are trying times for us all, try and remain optimistic that your wedding will happen just like you planned.

After numerous emails and phone calls from newly engaged couples asking if I knew how to get a marriage license during COVID-19, I decided to do a little research so that I could provide the correct information.

I reached out to Brenda Forman, Broward County’s Clerk of The Courts and asked her if couples could apply for marriage license during the COVID-19 Pandemic.

She shared, “in order for a marriage license to be issued a couple would have to appear in person to the Clerk’s Office with proper Identification and payment. However, the Clerks office is closed until after May 31, 2020. (Pursuant to Administrative Order).

She also stated, “you are able to fill out the marriage license application online, print it, and bring the application to the Clerk’s Office along with your spouse, proof of identification and your payment once the the Broward Clerk’s office reopens.”

In addition, Ms. Forman added, “those wishing to get a marriage license prior to the Broward County Clerk’s Office opening, you can set up an appointment with the Palm Beach County Clerk of The Courts to obtain your license. Same rules apply for in person appointments at the Palm Beach County Courthouse. Take all  of your credentials along with your spouse.”

Due to the COVID-19 Pandemic, the Broward County Courthouse  is closed to the public until June 1st, 2020. This date could change.

The Broward Clerk’s office is in the process of working on an alternative plan to obtain a marriage license in the event the COVID-19 Pandemic lasts longer than May 31, 2020. (Pursuant to Administrative Order).
