Innovation in technology is not new. Since last decade, more designers have worked on integrating the two. Whether through physical means, or actually integrating technical products into the fabrics of clothing. Even more so now, it’s vital to utilize technology to work for us.
With COVID-19 being our new normal, I was curious as to how the fashion industry is adjusting. I reached out to my colleague Miguel Wilson of Miguel Wilson Collections to see what he is doing to adjust within his business at this time.
How Are You Adjusting To The New Normal?
Miguel Wilson: Just like everyone else, I am taking it day by day. The biggest adjustment for me has been shifting my business model to support clients online. We are offering virtual shopping, as well as in-store shopping, in accordance with CDC guidelines.
For Customers Who May Be Afraid Of In-Person Visits, What Can You Assure Them Of?
Miguel Wilson: Now more than ever, we have to be in tune with what the facts are stating. We are looking closely at what the CDC is recommending for businesses like ours. Above all, our customers are our top priority, and we are exercising every precaution to ensure they are safe.
How Have Appointments Changed For You?
Miguel Wilson: Right now, we are operating from an appointment only basis – we are only seeing one client at a time. The store is thoroughly cleaned after every appointment to ensure the safety of not only myself and my employees, but for future appointments as well. As of now, we will be opening the store back up June 1st. Again, in accordance with CDC guidelines, we will insure that masks, gloves, and temperature checks are performed for each client walking through the door.
Elite Events: What’s Your Advice to Groomsmen right now, with so many weddings being cancelled/postponed?
Miguel Wilson: Do not stop planning! Continue planning your wedding. Use your time now to be even more selective in what you’re choosing. At Miguel Wilson Collections, we will be able to give you exactly what you need to walk down the aisle in style.
Overall, I think it’s important for each business to operate in what works best for you. We understand that realistically, it’s simply not feasible for all businesses, especially person to person businesses to be shut down for months on end.
I strongly encourage applying for PPP loans if you are able, and pivoting within your business as much as possible to remain relevant online. Your online presence still matters, even more so throughout this pandemic.
Miguel Wilson Collections is doing a great job of utilizing both! How are you adjusting your business model due to COVID-19?
If you are planning a wedding or celebration and need our assistance, we are here to help.
Send us an email, we’d love to hear from you.

Great interview with Miguel Wilson! I especially loved how he mentioned safety and his clients being top priority. We can’t allow what is happening around us (Covid-19) to stop our progress or weigh us down. With today’s new technologies the end result will be even better for clients and business owners.
